"You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men. You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven."
Matthew 5:13-16

I really love the picture above, a perfect symbol and representation of what us, as Christians, should be in this world.
Do you really know what it means to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world? Well, first, think about what salt is and does, and also light.
Salt is a white crystalline substance that gives seawater it's characteristic taste and is used for seasoning and preserving food.
Light is something that makes things visible or affords illumination.
Being the salt of the earth means that instead of allowing people and this world to be bland, without Christ, and dead, we need to add Jesus into their lives and show the love of Christ in this cold world. It especially important in these last days that we strive to save as many souls as possible. We need to edify people with the Word of God and bring into their lives Jesus so that they may live a more fulfilling life. Colossians 4:6 says, "Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone." Always take advantage of opportunities God gives you to witness to people and express God's love for them. Everyone deserves to "taste and see that the Lord is good".
Being the light of the world means that we should always be showing people the way to Christ through our walk and through our talk. We should strive to shine our light, the light of Christ, wherever we go. Being that light is being a Godly example for others. When people see us, they should see Christ. When we are in Christ Jesus, we should always be walking in the light and it should radiate from us. Jesus said to the people in John 8:12, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." The light of Christ in us should shine so bright that it illuminates their lives as well.
When we're being the salt and light, people should wonder why they don't have this Jesus we have and speak of. But if you don't have it or feel like it's dying out, how do you become the salt and light? You have to fellowship with other believers. The fire for God and joy of the Lord can be contagious. It is important to fellowship with the saints (which will be another blog). Go to church. Learn more about Jesus. I promise He will change your life forever. Get into your word more and pray without ceasing. When you are in the presence of God he will fill you up. And never forget that you can ask God for whatever you want, if it is in line with his will. So you can ask God to help you be the salt and light of this world. God will be pleased with you and give you the desires of your heart. This world needs you so get yourself together and go out and be the salt and light of this world!
