Romans 12:1
"Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God--this is your true and proper worship."

Most people take this scripture and talk about the same things--doing away with sexual sin, alcohol, drugs, and focusing on what not to do. I would like to change it up and focus on what we should be doing with our bodies.
Volunteering is a good thing, and most people like to volunteer. It makes them feel good about themselves and like they have a purpose in this world. I'll let you in on something deeper. Volunteering, if done willingly and not grudgingly, is an act of worship. God calls us to help people. In His word it says, "'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.'" That's to say that we are supposed to cater to those in need. If you feel led to give food to the hungry, take someone to a shelter, or just volunteer at a local ministry or food bank, do so. God loves it and it is a blessing to the Lord. In that act, you are also showing gratitude for all God has done to you and given to you.

I believe there is so much spiritual application that can be taken from this. Volunteering shows that you have a servant's heart. When God came down to earth in the form of a human, he came down to serve. He didn't have to show off his deity or proclaim who he was all the time. He was humble and meek regardless of all the power He has. He used His power in many ways to show love, and as believers that is what we are supposed to do as well. You can use volunteering as a way to witness, to tell others about the power of Christ. And just the act in itself can show others the love and heart of Christ.
Also, not all the time is it the most convenient to volunteer. We may not feel like getting up or driving somewhere to volunteer. It then, becomes a sacrifice and will mean so much more if you push yourself to do it anyway. Sometimes, in this Christian walk, we will need to make sacrifices in order for God to get the glory he deserves. Volunteering is one aspect that sacrifice will need to be made. We may have to sacrifice time or sleep in order to make a difference. God loves a cheerful giver and a person willing to serve. Let's strive to be more like Christ by serving others. God bless.
