Today is my 3rd day in Costa Rica and I feel like I've experienced every emotion there is, already lol. These days are going by really slow. I'm still in shock that I'm in an entirely different country with a new family. It helps that the family does what they can to help me adapt well. So day two: it wasn't TOO bad. The food, as always, was pretty good. Nothing is too off the walls for me to try. I did a lot of nothing since classes hadn't started yet and people stay to themselves for the most part. Also, I can't just go out my room and have a full conversation with them yet since my vocabulary isn't very extensive. So I stay in my room a lot. Yesterday I feel like I experienced a little bit of the homesick stage. I wanted to cry and didn't know why. I felt emotional and vulnerable. I was bored and so I wanted to go sit in the kitchen and talk but after a while it was too much for me so I went back to my room, alone. I learned that this will definitely be a challenge but with the help of God, i will overcome it. I miss my mom. I miss my boyfriend. I miss my church family. I miss my friends. I guess it's good thing that I am in this homesick phase this soon because, hopefully, I'll be out of it soon!
Also, last night, while I was up on my phone, the lights went out and my internet stopped working. I got a little uneasy because I didn't know what was going on, that meant I also couldn't whatsapp or facetime anyone, and it was super quiet. So I got up, locked my room door, got back in the bed and prayed and just looked at pictures on my phone as I fell asleep. This morning everything was working fine. But now I came on my cycle and feel miserable :( . I feel like I'm gonna be in the bed all day. Maybe I'll do some yoga and hope that helps.
For dinner last night, we had some type of pasta, salad (which is with almost every meal), and mango juice. They have a mango tree in their backyard! The juice wasn't very sweet but it was still good. For breakfast today, we had eggs, bread, and something my host mom said Costa Ricans eat for breakfast a lot. It's a mixture of beans, rice, and spices. It wasn't too bad. I told her it was different for me and "tipicamente, no como mucho comida en las mañanas". (typically, i don't eat a lot of food in the mornings). She gave me a lot of rice. I still look forward to what this country has to offer me, despite the rocky beginnings.
